A LIVING MIRCLE
Jesse Rubio calls himself a living miracle be-cause Jesus Christ rescued him from years of addiction, homelessness, and despair. Alcohol took complete control of Jesse, until he needed it just to function. Without it, he experienced violent shaking and hallucinations. He cycled through jail and spent nearly twelve years homeless on the streets of Hawaiian Gardens, trapped in addiction and hopelessness, but even in the darkness, Jesse still cried out to God. One day in a riverbed, he cried out to Jesus, “I’m trapped and there’s no way out!” Soon after, Terryl Bruce from The Way Out Ministries began reaching out to him, our resource center provided him with food and clothes and he was invited to our weekly Bible study and church. Though he was still drinking, God was reaching out to him.
Everything changed one day when Jesse was found unconscious on the street and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Doctors thought he would not survive, but while he lay in a coma, Terryl and his friend Davo prayed for him at his bed side. Friends at The Way Out Ministries and The Gathering Church also prayed!
When Jesse woke up, his craving for alcohol was completely gone. He realized that God had miraculously freed him! From that day forward, Jesse’s life was rebuilt. He began reading the Bible, attending church, got pastoral counsel, attended recovery groups and helped others struggling with addiction and homelessness.
Jesse regained his driver’s license after twenty years, bought his first vehicle and got a job as a driver for disabled veterans. Jesse has learned to treasure his walk with Jesus Christ and has lived in sobriety since December 25, 2015. The Bible passage in Philippians 1:6 has become the foundation of his restored life, which says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Today, Jesse lives for Christ and shares the hope of the Gospel that transformed him. Jesse says, “Jesus Christ is The Way Out!”

BIG SPLASH
One of our California young adults, Julianna Igama, made a “big splash” by graduating as an Ensign Public Affairs officer in the US Navy on May 15, 2026. Her love for Jesus and care for others radiates where ever she goes. We miss her at The Gathering Church and in fellowship, but our prayers go with her as she makes her new home on the USS George Washington (CVN-73)—currently deployed in the Philippine Sea. Please pray for her with us and her proud parents and family. Please continue to pray for all of our service men and women.

MISSION TO THE MANGYANS
One of the greatest blessings of ministry is seeing how God uses relationships built over time to open new doors for the Gospel. During mission trips to the Philippines, Pastor Barry met Rosalinda Magarau while ministering to her students at Occidental Mindoro State College. Since then, The Way Out has partnered with Rosalinda and her husband, Pastor Adlin, through their church, Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church, Camburay, and the campus ministry. Together we have partnered in prison outreach, Bible distribution, and emergency flood relief in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
Recently, Rosalinda and Pastor Adlin shared the need for outreach to a poor, remote, Mangyan indigenous community in the mountains where many children and adults have never heard the Gospel. They asked if The Way Out would partner with them to establish a weekly mission outreach there, and we gladly agreed.
After much prayer and planning, a mission team was established in May and the team began traveling each week to the village. Despite difficult journeys through rugged terrain, long walks, and river crossings, the team faithfully shares the Good News of Jesus, builds relationships, and provides practical support to local families.
Rosalinda reports, “Little by little, they are learning about Jesus, who died on the cross and rose again. Before this, they knew nothing about the Lord. They believed only the teachings passed down by their elders and called upon spirits with traditional rituals during droughts and floods.”
We are excited to welcome Rosalinda and Pastor Adlin as ministry partners in this outreach to the Buhid Tribe in Sito Panlabayan, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro. Please pray for them, their team, and the Mangyan people.
ROCK BOTTOM RESET
Paul Davidson came to us a few months ago after years of struggling with addiction. Having recently given his life to Christ, he carried a renewed sense of hope and purpose that was evident to us. While living in an Oxford House in Fort Worth (one of many group recovery homes in Texas), he was eager to share information about the program with others who needed support as they worked to rebuild their lives.
As Paul began looking for employment, The Way Out Ministries was able to assist him in creating a resume, obtaining his food handler's license, applying for jobs, and purchasing slip-resistant work shoes once he was hired. We were rejoicing with him when he was offered a full-time position as a line cook at BJ's Restaurant! Paul has been working hard ever since.
What has been most inspiring is the way that Paul has used his own journey to encourage others. He has shared his testimony with people in his home and neighboring Oxford Houses, telling them about what God has done in his life and the support he has received through The Way Out. Because of his encouragement, many others have reached out for help and hope for themselves.
Paul is a light wherever he goes, and it is clear that God is using him to impact the lives of those around him. We are grateful to have played a part in his journey and look forward to seeing all that God will continue to do through him. Paul says, “ROCK BOTTOM IS A GIFT! It strips away your ego, pride and all the burdens you've been carrying. You're left with nothing but raw possibility; a chance to build from scratch and create something that you thought wasn't possible. Rock bottom isn't the end-- it’s the reset button to your life!” What a joy it has been for us to be a part of Paul’s “reset”!
