Jesse Rubio calls himself a living miracle —not because life was easy, but because he believes Jesus Christ rescued him from years of addiction, homelessness, and despair. Today Jesse speaks with peace and gratitude, but his life was once controlled by alcoholism. Raised in a hardworking home where alcohol was never present, he struggled with anxiety and pressure as a teenager. The first time he drank, he felt immediate relief, and soon alcohol and marijuana became regular parts of his life.
Though raised Catholic, Jesse longed for something more personal in his faith. In high school, a classmate began sharing Jesus Christ with him. When Jesse admitted he drank and smoked marijuana, she simply replied, "That's okay. He'll take it away." She invited him to a Bible study, and for the first time Jesse realized he could speak directly to Jesus himself. His faith became personal, and almost immediately his desire to drink disappeared. Jesse threw himself into sharing the Gospel and serving others, but over time his focus drifted. Criticism and compromise slowly replaced the passion he once had, and eventually he walked away from the faith that had transformed him.
Then came the collapse. Alcohol completely took over his life. Beer turned into hard liquor, and eventually he drank constantly just to function. Without alcohol, his hands shook violently and hallucinations tormented him. He cycled in and out of jail and spent nearly twelve years homeless, trapped in hopelessness and addiction.

Yet even in the darkness, a small cry for God remained alive. One day, alone in a riverbed, Jesse finally surrendered. "I'm trapped," he prayed. "There's no way out." Soon afterward, a woman named Terryl from The Way Out Ministries began reaching out to him on the streets, inviting him to church, Bible studies, and recovery programs. Though he was still drinking, hope was beginning to grow again. Then everything changed
Jesse was found unconscious on a sidewalk and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Doctors believed he would not survive, and while he lay in a coma, Terryl and members of the church prayed for him constantly. When Jesse woke up, the craving for alcohol was gone.
Completely gone. Every other hospital stay had been consumed by thoughts of getting another drink, but this time the obsession had vanished. Jesse describes it simply as a miracle and believes God answered the desperate cry of his heart with mercy.

From there, Jesse slowly rebuilt his life. He attended recovery meetings, sought mental health support, returned to church, and began serving others who were struggling just as he once had.
He helped feed homeless individuals, regained his driver's license after twenty years, bought his first vehicle, and learned to treasure things many people overlook —sobriety, health, food, and community. His sobriety date is December 25, 2015. One verse became the foundation of his restored life: Philippians 1:6 — "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Today, Jesse begins every morning in prayer and lives to serve others and point them toward hope. After years of addiction, homelessness, and near death, he now shares the message that changed his life: There is a Way Out in Jesus Christ.
