Founders of The Way Out Ministries & The Gathering Christian Fellowship
Church History
On December 14, 2003, The Gathering was planted by The Way Out Ministries. For over 20 years, The Way Out Ministries has been serving the city through it's Christ-centered services and youth programs. In time, many of those youth grew into adults and desired a place in their city to worship God and grow their families. It was a natural progression for The Way Out Ministries to birth a church where that could happen. The Gathering enjoys a refreshing contemporary style of worship which utilizes the arts and shares the illustrated good news of Christ in the city of Hawaiian Gardens. Our services are every Sunday at 10:00AM.
Our Pastor & His Wife
The Rev. Barry and Terryl Bruce have been active in God's service since their marriage in 1982, when they began their adventures with Youth With A Mission's (YWAM) mercy ship ministries on board the M/V Anastasis. They were called by God to return to the United States and begin an inner-city ministry while they were at a Christian rally in New Zealand. Read more obout our pastor and his family.
The Way Out
Upon the Bruce's return to the U.S., they began reaching out to the city of Hawaiian Gardens and soon founded The Way Out Ministries, a non-Profit, Christ-centered ministry dedicated to reaching the needs of people in the inner-city. In 1984 the Bruce's incorporated that ministry and later partnered with the Reformed Church in America (RCA) and became a mission affiliate with them.
The Bruce's live in Hawaiian Gardens and are blessed with four children: Ryan, Rachel, Michelle and Debra, who has made them the proud grandparents of four. Terryl is the principal of Turner Christian High School which operates on the ministries campus.
